Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Junior
Cassie Roessing struck out eight and sophomore
Taylre Keenan went 3 for 3 to help Nebraska Kearney beat Southwest Baptist, 5-4, in game one of a double header Saturday in Bolivar, Mo.
The Lopers were poised for a sweep as they scored four in the top of the sixth to grab a 6-4 lead in the nightcap. However, SBU (6-7, 1-3) hit a three-run walk off homer to win.
In her first appearance on the mound for the Lopers, Roessing (Phoenix, Ariz.) blanked SBU for the first three innings. Working around 12 hits and two walks, she allowed just single runs over the final four innings as SBU left 11 runners on base.
Junior 1b
Kate Ruwe (Blair) hit a two-run single in the fifth to give UNK a 4-1 lead. Keenan (Ralston) led off the Kearney seventh with a single to left and eventually scored a key insurance run on an RBI ground out by Roessing.
SBU catcher Dana Graves (1 for 2) hit a two out RBI double in the bottom of the inning but Roessing got a strike out to win the game.
UNK (1-10, 1-1) wasn't as fortunate in game two as Graves (2 for 4, five RBI's) came up with two on and no out in the seventh. She promptly hit a homer to left, her team-leading fourth dinger of the spring, to end things.
A four-run Loper sixth featured four hits and two SBU errors. UNK got RBI's from three different players but the inning could've yielded more as Kearney left the based loaded.
Junior catcher
Erin Dwyer (Elmwood) went 2 for 3 with an RBI while Colorado freshman
Meg Housholder allowed five earned and fanned three in going the distance.
UNK is at Central Missouri (6-5, 2-0) tomorrow afternoon.
