Cassie Roessing threw another complete game and sophomore
Emilee Jonas provided a sacrifice fly in the top of the 10
th inning to help Nebraska-Kearney upset Emporia State, 5-4, in the second game of a double header Saturday in Kansas.
The 15th-ranked Hornets (30-12, 13-5) scored three times in the sixth inning to win game one, 5-1.
UNK (13-26, 11-13) has played well against Top 25 competition this year, sweeping then-No. 19 Central Oklahoma on March 27th and taking game one of a double dip with then-No. 14 Missouri Western State on April 4th.
Roessing (Phoenix, Ariz.) went the distance in both games today, throwing a total of 332 pitches. She also threw nine of a possible 11.0 innings in Friday's losses at Washburn, another 169 pitches.
On the season, the Phoenix College transfer is now 12-9 with a 3.73 ERA, 14 complete games in 21 starts and 101 K's in 135.0 innings.
UNK and Roessing were seemingly poised for a 4-1 victory in the night cap but the Hornets scored in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to force extra time. Roessing did manage to get out of bases loaded situation in the seventh thanks to a pop up to right.
She had to get out of another sticky situation in the ninth as ESU had runners at first and second with one out. Roessing kept the game tied thanks to a ground out to first and fly out to center.
The international tie breaker rule started in the 10
th and junior
Candice Whetton (Long Beach, Calif.) pinch ran for Roessing, who was placed at second to start the inning.

Makenzi Dallas (Phoenix, Ariz.) moved Whetton to third and then Jonas flew out to right to score the winning run. ESU failed to score in its turn at bat as they grounded out three straight times, sandwiched around a walk.

Paige Hamelin (Payson, Ariz.) went 3 for 5, sophomore DP
Amanda Dunn (Lincoln Southwest H.S.) was 2 for 5 with two RBI's and Roessing knocked in two thanks to a single and sac fly.
To record win number 12, Roessing worked around 11 hits and nine walks as ESU left 18 runners on base. UNK almost did the same, stranding 12.
In game one, Emporia's Kaitlyn Caston improved to 13-2 by throwing a six-hitter. She fanned four, walked three and gave up only a solo shot by Roessing, her sixth of the year, in the fourth.
The Hornets broke open a one-run game by scoring three times in the sixth, the big blow being a two-run single by center fielder Stephanie Goodwin (2 for 2).
UNK is at Hastings College Tuesday night and then gets next weekend off.
