Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney softball team belted seven home runs to sweep a double header from Chadron State, 14-5 and 12-1, Tuesday evening in Chadron.
Both games lasted just five innings due to the run rule. UNK is now 17-26 while the Eagles fall to 13-33.
Junior first baseman
Kate Ruwe (Blair) was the star of the first game, going 3 for 4 with three runs and six RBI's. All three of her hits left the yard as she had a three-run shot in the first, a solo dinger in the third and a two-run bomb in the fifth.
After another RBI in the night cap, Ruwe now has seven homers and 51 RBI's on the season. She also has a team-best .415 batting average.
Junior catcher
Erin Dwyer (Elmwood) hit a homer right before Ruwe's second and then hit two more in the night cap. She finished the day a combined 6 for 8 with six runs and five RBI's.
Finally at the plate, junior third baseman
Makenzi Dallas (Phoenix, Ariz.) hit a "Grand Slam" in game two, a long ball that was part of a five-run fourth inning. She ended 2 for 2 with two runs and those four RBI's.
On the mound, Arizona junior
Cassie Roessing improved to 14-9 as she threw a complete game four-hitter. She fanned three and walked one in throwing just 79 pitchers. In game two, freshman
Meg Housholder (Parker, Colo.) won her second straight start, allowing just one run on four hits and no walks.
UNK is at Fort Hays State Friday night. To secure the eighth and final spot in the MIAA Tournament, the Lopers (11-13) need to sweep the Tigers (12-12). On Saturday, UNK and Hays play a non-conference double header at Harmon Park.
