Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Junior
Cassie Roessing and freshman
Meg Housholder tossed complete games and Nebraska-Kearney used some timely hitting to sweep Fort Hays State, 7-3 and 6-3, Sunday evening at Dryden Park.
These were the final regular season contests of the year for both clubs. UNK ends at 19-28 while the Tigers are 26-25 heading into the MIAA Tournament.
Roessing (Phoenix, Ariz.) recorded her 17th complete game of the season in the opener. Throwing 133 pitches, she allowed three earned runs on seven hits and four walks. Fanning four, Roessing (15-10) blanked Hays over the first four innings.
At the plate, UNK scored four in the first and added three more runs in the third. The Lopers drew four walks in the first with Wahoo junior
Paige Otte (2 for 3) delivering a two-run single up the middle.
In the third, sophomore second baseman
Emilee Jonas (Omaha Skutt H.S.) hit her second homer of the season, a two-run shot to right center. Besides Otte and Jonas, junior third baseman
Makenzi Dallas (Phoenix, Ariz.) went 1 for 2 with two runs scored and two RBI's.
In the night cap, Housholder (Parker, Colo.) recorded her seventh complete game of 2015 by allowing three runs on nine hits and five walks. Earning her fourth win, she had three strikeouts and shut out Hays over the final five innings.
The Tigers hurt themselves by stranding 13 runners, including leaving the bases full in the second.
A four-run second inning featured four of UNK's six hits, the big blow being a three-run dinger to right center off the bat of junior center fielder
Paige Hamelin (Payson, Ariz.). That marked her first long ball as a Loper.
Finally, as the designated player, Roessing went 2 for 3 with a run and RBI.
Kearney, which went 19-19 over its final 38 games, didn't have a senior on this year's roster
