Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney head women's basketball coach
Carrie Hofstetter announced today that guard Teri Oliver will play for the Lopers this upcoming season.
The 5-9 Indiana native has one season of eligibility remaining after previously playing at Division I Southern Illinois-Carbondale. Oliver will be one of 11 newcomers on UNK's
2015-16 roster.
"We are thrilled to welcome Teri to our program. Teri is a fierce competitor who has had a ton of playing experience and success at the highest level," said Hofstetter. "She is a consistently dynamic scorer with excellent three-point range. "
Oliver started 82 games for the Salukis, twice being named honorable mention All-Missouri Valley Conference and chosen to the 2010 MVC All-Freshman team.
As a junior in 2011-12, she averaged 16 points per game and set a new school record with 90 made three pointers. Scoring 1,199 points in her SIU career, Oliver also led the team in steals (43) and ranked third in assists (51) that season.
Graduating with a degree in Sports Administration, Oliver made at least one three in 40 consecutive games and sunk 235 treys in her Saluki career.
"We anticipate she will have a significant impact on our program because of her maturity and ability to lead, combined with her skills and competitive spirit," said Hofstetter.
At Taylor High in Kokomo, Ind., Oliver earned second-team all-state honors her senior season after averaging 18.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. Leaving as the third all-time leading scorer in Titans history, she also set new school record for points (461) and free throw percentage (90.0%) in a season.
Having two sisters who played Division II basketball at Tusculum College in Tennessee, Oliver will work on Master's Degree in Sports Administration at UNK.
The Lopers will bring back four of its top five scorers off last year's 2014-15 team that reached the MIAA Tournament for a second straight season.
