arney, Neb. – The Washburn Ichabods used a 75-yard drive in the fourth quarter to put the finishing touches on a 34-14 win over Nebraska-Kearney Friday morning in Topeka, Kans.
The game was halted late Thursday night due to severe weather with Washburn (1-1) ahead 27-7 at the 11:59 mark of the third quarter. The weather delay lasted nearly 100 minutes before the decision was made to postpone.
Prior to the weather delay, Washburn used 56-yard interception return to setup a one-yard quarterback sneak by Derek McGinnis to open up a 20-point cushion. A Crete native, McGinnis finished 17 of 32 for 224 yards, three TD's and no INT's.
The rest of the third quarter was scoreless as the teams traded punts and the Lopers stopped Washburn on 4th and 10 from the Kearney 33-yard line.
Early in the fourth, UNK took advantage of 24-yard punt, plus a 12-yard return by sophomore
George Brown (University City, Mo.), to setup its second scoring drive of the game. Starting at the Ichabod 33-yard line, UNK got a 15-yard run by senior receiver

However, the 'Bods responded in kind by marching 75 yards in 12 plays, taking nearly five minutes off the clock. A five-yard pass from McGinnis to receiver Bryce Chavis kept the drive going and was capped by a one-yard run from Kansas transfer Brandon Bourbon.
Marsh completed passes of 10 and 29 yards to Williams on the next Kearney possession but a 4th and 2 pass to sophomore receiver
Tityus Mitchell (Hastings, Fla.) fell incomplete at the 'Bods 22-yard line.
Over the two days, Washburn out gained Kearney by just a 367-301 margin. Both teams had the ball for nearly 30 minutes with each club also converting nearly half their third downs. The Lopers did have four turnovers to none for WU.
Besides McGinnis, senior receiver Jordan Hart had six grabs for 153 yards and one score with Bourbon running 24 times for 96 yards. Finally, reserve back Hayden Groves had 47 yards on 15 carries and senior end Spencer Matthews had a team-high 11 tackles, including three sacks for a loss of 18 yards.
For UNK, Marsh was 16 of 37 for 207 yards, one TD and three INT's. His favorite targets were Williams (eight recep., 89 yds.) and Mitchell (five recep., 92 yds., one TD).
On the ground, Marsh had 15 carries for 56 yards but lost 30 yards due to five sacks. Senior back
Romero Cotton returned to his home state and tallied 47 yards on 16 totes.

Tyke Kozeal (Sargent) had a team-best 15 tackles, including seven solo stops, with Omaha sophomore backer
Devontay LeFlore recording two pass breakups and eight tackles. Finally, Brown had eight tackles and senior corner
Steven Burns Jr. (Las Vegas, Nev.) had 1.5 TFL's and two PBU's.
UNK heads to Missouri Southern State (0-2) next Saturday. That game kicks at 6:00 p.m.
