Volleyball Goes 2-2 in Anchorage

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – The 5th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team finished the Spring Hill Suites Invitational with a 2-2 record after beating Cal Poly Pomona (23-25, -19, -21, -19) and falling to 23rd-ranked Rockhurst (-26, -21, -20) on Saturday.

Junior right side Annie Wolfe (Omaha Marian H.S.) was named to the all-tournament team after she averaged 2.40 kills and 3.13 digs per set over four matches.

Against the CPP Broncos, Wolfe had 10 kills and no errors in 22 swings to hit .455 with freshman outside Connar Newberry providing a team-best 15 kills, six digs and three aces. Also, sophomore outside Kaitlynn Thomas (Yutan) had 13 kills and two blocks.

UNK erased an early 7-3 deficit in in set one, eventually grabbing leads of 20-19 and 21-10. However, CPP tallied the final two points of the set to lead 1-0.The Lopers, hitting .197 and recording 9.0 team blocks, controlled things from that point, trailing only five times over the next three sets.

Defensively, four players had 10 or more digs, including 12 from freshman setter Lindsey Smith (Dakota Dunes, SD). She also had 40 assists, five kills and hit .500 in the win.

Pomona was paced by Deanna Blaine with 15 digs, 13 kills, five aces and three blocks.

Kearney roared out of the gates against Rockhurst, leading 10-3, 16-10 and 18-12. However, RU finished the set on a 16-6 run to not only grab the lead but swing the momentum in a big way.

Three different Hawks finished the evening with double digit kill total, led by 2014 All-American Preecy Seever (13). She also had 13 blocks (11 assisted); as a team, RU tallied 18.0 team stuffs.

Hitting .099, UNK got 11 kills and 20 digs from Wolfe with junior middle Bailey Sokolowski (Kearney Catholic) at 10 kills and two blocks. Finally, freshman Ellie McDonnell (Papillion) dug up 18 balls and had one of UNK's three aces.

The Lopers play five matches in home next weekend, starting with Illinois-Springfield on Thursday night.
