Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney and Wayne State men's basketball teams will play each other for the 161st time when the two meet Tuesday in Rice Auditorium.
This game was originally set for Monday, November 30th, but postponed due to weather.
Tip time is set for 7:00 p.m.
The Wildcats (4-15, 2-12 NSIC) are 4-5 at home this season. They have lost three straight, including a 95-89 OT loss at Upper Iowa on Friday. Wayne began the season with a road setback at Missouri Western State, 81-75, and a neutral site loss to Northwest Missouri State, 89-52.
Elkhorn native Matt Thomas is the only 'Cat in double figures, currently at 16.5 per game. The 6-0 sophomore guard is shooting 85% at the line and has sunk 31 three pointers while also suppling a team-best 3.2 assists per night.
Six-six sophomore wing Jordan Cornelius (33) leads Wayne in threes made as well as rebounds (5.1). As a team, the Wildcats are getting out rebounded by five per game and allow 83.8 points a night.
To start the 2013-14 season, UNK posted a 75-69 win over WSC in the Health & Sports Center. Current senior
Connor Beranek (Ravenna) went for 22 points and seven rebounds as the Lopers got out to a 34-22 halftime lead.
Currently, Beranek is the nation's fifth leading scorer at 25.3 per game. Shooting 87% at the line and 53% from the field, he has had three 30-point efforts over the last six games.
As a team, the Lopers remain tops in Division II in free throw shooting at 81.8%. Over the last four games, UNK has sunk 74 of 84 freebies (89%).
This Saturday evening, another rivalry game takes place as Fort Hays State comes to town. This will be the 123rd meeting between the Lopers and Tigers.
