Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The Regis Rangers closed on a 15-4 run to beat Nebraska-Kearney, 65-58, Friday night in Denver, Colo.
The Rangers (3-0), a former RMAC rival, remain perfect on the young season while the Lopers fall to 1-2.
Despite shooting 28.6% (14 of 49) from the field, UNK started the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run to grab a 54-50 lead. On the strength of six three pointers and a 9 of 9 effort from the line, the Lopers led 33-29 at the break.
However, over the final 5:55, the Rangers went 8 of 10 at the line, made three shots from the field and took advantage of four Loper turnovers to rally. UNK's last four points came at the line as they missed its last four shots, two coming from long range.
Senior forward Karlyn Johnson went 6 of 6 at the line in the last 29 seconds to score a team-high 19. She made 5 of 6 shots and was a perfect 9 of 9 from the charity stripe, as well as grabbing a team-high eight boards.
Regis almost made half its field goals (24 of 49), had a plus four rebounding margin and outscored UNK 36-8 in the paint. Besides Johnson, six other Rangers were between six and nine points.
UNK almost made up for its cold shooting by sinking 23 of 25 free throws. The two misses, however, came during that late Regis run.

Michaela Barry went 4 of 9 from the triple line to score a team-high 19. She also had three blocks and two assists while playing a team-high 34 minutes.
No other Loper reached double digits but reserves
Courtney Aitken (Dannebrog) and
Kelsey Fitzgerald (Yankton, S.D.) were effective. Both logged over 26 minutes with Fitzgerald close to a double double (eight rebounds & five points) and Aitken stuffing the box score (nine points, five boards, two assists, two steals and one block).
