Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney Aqualopers swam past the College of Saint Mary, 156-73, and fell to Augustana, 182-76, Saturday morning in Omaha.
This was UNK's
first regular season event of the 2016-17 season and the debut of new head coach
Rebecca Tidwell.
The Aqualopers got things started with a splash as the 400 medley relay team, featuring three true freshmen, placed first in 4:21.76. The group consisted of returner
Kenzie Eubank (Ft. Collins, Colo.) and newcomers
Jordan Ray (Tallahassee, Fla.),
Becca Shaw (Kansas City) and
Anna Yanke (Scottsbluff).
To close out the day, UNK was runner up in the 400 free relay. Shaw anchored that team with fellow freshmen Alyssa Hoffman (St. Cloud, Minn.),
Caroline Stieglitz (Colo. Springs, Colo.) and Royn Lewis (Bonner Springs, Kan.) taking the first three legs.
Individually, Yanke was UNK's lone first place finisher, leading the field in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.63). Coming second were Shaw (200 free/2:06.34), Stieglitz (100 fly/1:06.34) and Ray (200 fly/2:23.10).
UNK heads to Sioux City, Ia., next weekend for the Morningside Triangular and Morningside Invitational.
