Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The third-ranked Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team hit an even .300 to sweep Missouri Western State (-23, -15, -15) Saturday evening in St. Joseph, Mo.
The Lopers (30-1, 15-1) have now reached the 30-win mark for the 29th time in program history and the 12th time in the
Rick Squiers (1999-present) era. Squiers also has 800 wins as college head coach (UNK, Hastings and Seward County J.C.)
UNK had six players between four and 10 kills and registered 10.0 team blocks on defense. Sophomore outside
Kendall Schroer (10) led the team in kills for a second straight night with three other starters hitting .333 or better.
Missouri Western (15-13, 7-8) battled in the first set, getting back-to-back kills to make it 24-23. However, an unforced Griffon attack error gave the set to Kearney.
Besides Schroer (Ogallala), Lincoln junior middle
Tara Ziegelbein had nine kills and a team-high five blocks, Omaha senior right side
Anne Wolfe provided seven kills, eight digs, two blocks and an ace with Kansas freshman outside
Julianne Jackson at five kills and three digs.
Next, Papillion sophomore libero
Ellie McDonnell had 22 digs with North Platte freshman outside
Allison Kuenle providing five kills, four digs and a block coming off the bench. McDonnell now has 999 career digs; she'll become the 29th Loper to have 1,000 in a career and is on pace to challenge Liz McGowan's school mark of 2,099.
The Griffs were led by Rachel Friedrichs eight kills and two digs.
UNK is at Southwest Baptist and Missouri Southern Stat next weekend. Both matches have the rare 11:00 a.m. start times.
