UNK Shut Down by CMU

Box Score  Kearney, Neb. – Five pitchers combined for a five-hit shutout to help 9th-ranked Colorado Mesa beat Nebraska-Kearney, 6-0, Sunday afternoon in Grand Junction.
 
The second of a three game series, Mesa (2-0) scored single runs in the second and third innings. They then added four insurance runs in the seventh, thanks to a Loper error and several successful bunts.
 
Senior starter Matt Allen got a no decision as he allowed four hits over the first 4.2 innings. Senior lefty Nick Romito fanned two of the six batters he faced two earn the win with junior righty Tanner Herdt working the seventh and eighth innings.
 
At the plate for the Mavericks, the sixth through eight hitters were a combined 6 for 11 with four runs scored and an RBI. That trio included junior first baseman Nick Borowski, who saved Saturday's game.
 
UNK sophomore Mitchell Robinson (Golden, Colo.) suffered the loss, allowing one earned over 5.2 innings. Fanning one, he didn't walk a batter and allowed six hits.
 
The series concludes tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. Central.
