Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Junior right hander Brandon Conlin threw five solid innings and cleanup hitter Francis Griffin drove in four runs to help Colorado State-Pueblo defeat Nebraska-Kearney, 8-1, Wednesday afternoon in Colorado.
This game wasn't on the original schedule for UNK but added to the slate last week.
The Lopers got on the board in the top of the second when senior first baseman
Kyle Honeycutt (Millard South H.S.) hit a single to bring home senior right fielder
Anthony Pacheco (Kearney Catholic H.S.).
That was an unearned run as Pacheco took second after the ball got past a Pueblo outfielder. Conlin got the win as he fanned two and allowed just one other hit over the first five innings.
Pueblo grabbed the lead for good with a three-run third. With two down and one on, two T-Wolves walked and then Griffin, a senior designated hitter, cleared the bases with a double to right center.
In the bottom of the fourth, four more Pueblo runs came across with senior first baseman Dominick Bregar (3 for 4) having a two-run single. Griffin (2 for 4) also had an RBI hit in an inning that began with a Loper error. Finally, with two down in the seventh, Bregar had a run scoring single to right.
Five different Lopers had a hit including junior newcomers
Easton Edmond (Lincoln Southwest H.S.) and
Jake Huscroft (Millard South H.S.) On the mound, Grand Island senior
Chayse Gulzow and Iowa junior
Weston Glienke combined for three strikeouts and no earned runs in three innings of relief work.
UNK heads to Denver this Friday-Sunday to take on the Regis Rangers.
