Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Junior right hander Brad Thoutt struck out six over six innings and senior first baseman Dylan Navarro went 3 for 5 with three RBI's to help the Regis Rangers beat Nebraska-Kearney, 12-4, Friday afternoon in Denver.
This was the start of a three-game series.
Playing a former RMAC rival for the first time in four years, UNK got on the board first when senior shortstop
Shane Sharkey (McKinney, Texas) scored on an error in the top of the first.
Batting in the seventh, Navarro delivered a two out, two-run single in the fourth to give his team the lead for good. Regis then took advantage of two Loper errors, as well as five hits, to score six runs in the fifth. The big hit was two-run single to left off the bay of junior left fielder Brian Sture (2 for 4).
Finishing with 15 hits, Regis scored three more in the sixth and added another unearned run in the seventh.
UNK was paced by redshirt freshman left fielder
Pate Katechis (Longmont, Colo.). Batting seventh, he went 3 for 4 with three RBI's. His day included a two-run single in the sixth and a solo homer, his second of the season, in the ninth.
Finally for the Lopers, junior
Matt Salamon (Owasso, Okla.) went 3 for 4 and had three assists in the field with South Dakota redshirt freshman
Gabriel Wieczorek throwing a scoreless eighth. On the season, Salamon is batting a team-high .529 and is perfect among 26 fielding chances.
