Chayse Gulzow had another strong relief outing and redshirt freshman
Pate Katechis drove in four runs as Nebraska-Kearney beat the Lincoln Blue Tigers, 16-5, Saturday afternoon in Jefferson City, Mo.
Finishing with 17 hits, drawing seven walks and taking advantage of five hit batters, the Lopers (3-6, 2-0) had five multi-run innings. That included a four-run ninth and three-run fifth and sixth innings.
On the mound, Colorado sophomore
Mitchell Robinson blanked Lincoln over the first four inning but ran into trouble in the fifth. Gulzow (Grand Island) came in after four had scored and promptly struck out seven over the next 3.1 innings. He now is 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA.
UNK grabbed a quick 4-0 lead after two innings with each run scoring after two were out. In the second, senior first baseman
Connor Messinger (2 for 6) had a two-run double.
In the fifth, Katechis (Longmont, Colo.) belted a deep homer that scored three. The left fielder ended the day 3 for 6 with three runs. Finally, senior shortstop
Shane Sharkey (3 for 5, three runs) hit a homer in the eighth.
The series concludes Sunday afternoon.
