Box Score Kearney, Neb – The Nebraska-Kearney baseball team pounded out 21 hits, including seven home runs, to beat Lincoln, 25-6 (7 innings), Sunday afternoon in Jefferson City, Mo.
To sweep the three-game MIAA series, UNK (4-6) outscored the Blue Tigers by a 55-13 margin and hit .429 with 12 homers.
Eight different Lopers had a multi-hit game as the Lopers scored 16 in the third and eight more in the fifth. In addition to the long balls, UNK had four doubles and took advantage of six walks and three hit batters.
In the third, Kearney had 13 hits, including a three-run homer from senior designated
Kyle Honeycutt (2 for 3, two runs) and a two-run shot from senior leadoff hitter
Shane Sharkey (2 for 4, two runs & three RBI's).
Also, Texas sophomore infielder
Josh Estrada (2 for 2, two runs & three RBI's) hit two homers with Colorado redshirt freshman left fielder
Pate Katechis remaining hot, finishing 2 for 3 with three RBI's and his fourth dinger, tying Sharkey for the team lead.
On the mound, Australian junior right hander
Andrew Riddell earned his first win as a Loper, fanning seven and allowing four hits over 5.0 innings. Three relievers each threw two thirds of an inning, combining for five K's and no earned runs.
UNK is scheduled to host Midland Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
