Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – The Pittsburg State Gorillas used two complete games and 20 hits to sweep a double header from Nebraska-Kearney, 11-2 (5 innings) and
8-5, Saturday in Kansas.
With the MIAA wins, Pitt improves to 17-6 (6-0) while UNK falls to 7-15 (0-6).
In game one, sophomore Emmie Robertson improved to 11-2 by fanning nine and walking just one over five innings. She also allowed two earned runs on five hits.
One of those hits was a solo homer by senior first baseman
Kate Ruwe (2 for 3, two RBI's) in the first inning. The Blair native hit another in the nightcap, pushing her season total to 11. Blair native and third baseman Cassie Keck set the Loper season dinger record (17) six years ago.
Pitt gave Robertson all the help she needed by scoring four in the first, three in the second and four more in the third. A 12-hit attack was led by left fielder Sierra Hall (3 for 3, three runs) and third baseman Katy Remy (3 for 4, two runs & three RBI's.)
A closer second game again saw the Gorillas score four in its first at bat. UNK trailed 6-0 after three but couldn't come back all the way.
Freshman Morgan Myers earned the win on the mound as she went the distance, allowing three earned on seven hits and three walks. Hall (2 for 2, one RBI) was one of three Pitt players to have two hits in the game.
For UNK, both Ruwe and Arizona senior right fielder
Rebecca Wyatt went 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
The Lopers head to Missouri Southern State Sunday morning.
