Kami Merrill threw a complete game seven-hitter and also went 2 for 4 at the plate to help Nebraska-Kearney take game one of a double header with Missouri Southern State, 4-2, Sunday morning in Joplin.
The Lions used 11 hits to take the night cap, 5-2.
UNK (8-16, 1-7) scored three runs over the first three innings to give Merrill all the support she needed. Improving to 4-6 on the year with three complete games, the Canadian struck out seven Lions, walked just two and allowed only one earned run.
An RBI double from senior catcher
Erin Dwyer (Elmwood) got UNK on the board in the first and then the Lopers took advantage of an MSSU (12-15, 2-4) error and two infield singles to score twice in the second.

Paige Hamelin (Payson, Ariz.) and junior left fielder
Taylre Keenan (Ralston) each collected two hits.
In game two, MSSU's Ashley Lutz got back to the .500 mark (7-7) thanks to a complete game four-hitter. She struck out five and walked three while allowing one earned run.
At the plate, left fielder Abi Corbett went 3 for 4 with three RBI's from the two hole. Missouri Southern led 3-0 after two innings and added an insurance run in the sixth.
