Makenzi Dallas hit a Grand Slam in game one and senior catcher
Erin Dwyer had a sacrifice fly in game two to help Nebraska-Kearney sweep Lindenwood, 12-9 and 6-5, Friday evening at Dryden Park.
UNK improves to 10-16 with the Lions falling to 6-20. Both clubs are 3-7 in the MIAA.
In game one, the teams combined for 22 runs on 26 hits, seven walks and five errors. Big innings were the order of the day as LWU scored three in the second and five in the fifth with the Lopers having a seven-run fourth and a five-run fifth.
Thanks to two singles and two infield errors, UNK tied things at eight in its half of the fifth. With one out and the bases loaded, Dallas (Phoenix, Ariz.) came up to the plate. Seeing six pitches and with the count full, Dallas delivered a deep shot over the left field fence to provide the winning margin.
This was her fifth homer of the year and capped a 3 for 4, five-RBI day. Overall, UNK's first four hitters went 9 for 15 with six runs and 10 RBI's. California senior
Nicole Larsen (2-6) allowed no earned runs over the final 2.1 innings to pick up the win.
In the nightcap, the teams combined for nine runs over the fourth and fifth innings. UNK tied things at five in the fifth after senior first baseman
Kate Ruwe (3 for 4, two runs) hit her 12th homer of the year and junior pitcher
Kami Merrill (Canada) delivered an RBI single with two down.
Ruwe (Blair) also started the rally in the sixth as she singled to right with one down. That allowed Dallas, who had walked, to take third as LWU bobbled Ruwe's hit in the outfield.
From the cleanup spot, Dwyer (Elmwood) hit a big pop up to left to easily score Dallas. Merrill (5-6) allowed just one base runner over the final 2.2 innings to earn the win.
UNK hosts Lincoln Saturday beginning at noon.
