Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney softball team his six home runs and got five inning complete games from senior
Nicole Larsen and
Kami Merrill to sweep a double header from Lincoln University, 10-2 and 10-0, Saturday afternoon at Dryden Park.
Taking each game due to the eight-run rule, UNK (12-16, 5-7) has now won four in a row.
In the nightcap, Canadian junior
Kami Merrill evened her record at 6-6 by throwing a complete game one-hitter. Fanning seven and walking four, she threw 82 pitches over 5.0 innings.
UNK scored three in the first and erupted for seven in the third to give Merrill all the support she needed. Senior first baseman
Kate Ruwe went 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBI's with both of her hits leaving the yard.
Ruwe also homered in the first game, giving her 15 on the season. Fellow Blair native and former third baseman Cassie Keck set the UNK record for homers in a season (17) back in 2011. Ruwe, going 2 for 2 in game one, is now batting .534 with 36 RBI's.
Senior third baseman
Makenzi Dallas (Phoenix, Ariz.) also had a day, going a combined 4 for 6 with three runs and eight RBI's. She hit homers in both games as well, giving her seven on the season. Dallas is now batting .417 with 33 RBI's.
Larsen (Murrieta, Calif.) won for the third time as a Loper, allowing five hits and walking one. She also struck out four and blanked the Blue Tigers (2-25, 1-9) in three innings.
UNK tallied three in the first, two in the second and four more in the third. Besides Ruwe and Dallas, Larsen went 3 for 3 with a solo homer while senior leadoff hitter
Rebecca Wyatt (Glendale, Ariz.) was 2 for 2 with two runs and two steals.
A long home stand finishes up this week when RMAC-member Colorado Christian visits Tuesday and Wednesday. Both double dips start at noon.
