Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Emporia State junior ace Tyler Stubblefield struck out seven and allowed one hit over six innings to lift the Hornets to a 9-0 win over Nebraska-Kearney Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field.
Due to weather, the three-game series was pushed back two days. With the win, the Hornets are now 19-6 (11-3) with the Lopers falling to 12-11 (9-5).
On a blustery day at the ball park, Stubblefield moved to 6-0 as he worked around five walks. The lefty, who previously starred at Texas A & M, gave up just a two-out single to senior shortstop
Shane Sharkey (McKinney, Texas) in the fifth.
Loper junior
Trey Ertmer (3-3) tried to match Stubblefield as he blanked E-State over the first four innings. However, left fielder BJ Dean hit a one-out homer in the fifth and then ESU added unearned runs in the next two innings.
A six-run Hornet ninth featured six hits and two walks. Five of the runs came after two outs with right fielder Dalton Wheat having a two-run double to right center.
Besides Ertmer (Elizabeth, Ill.), Papillion junior third baseman
Brent Kirsch went 2 for 3 with a walk for the Lopers.
The teams finish the series tomorrow with a double header starting at noon.
