Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – The Emporia State Hornets registered 32 hits and took advantage of some fielding miscues to sweep a double header from Nebraska-Kearney, 14-6 and 7-6, Sunday afternoon at Memorial Field.
With the wins, E-State sweeps the series and improves to 21-6 (13-3).
In game one, the Hornets struck for four in the first, two in the second and one in the third to grab a 7-0 lead. They also tallied three in the fifth and added two more in the ninth. Overall, four Kearney errors led to five Emporia runs.
Leadoff hitter Levi Ashmore (4 for 6, two runs & four RBI's) had a big game and saw three teammates collected three hits apiece. Junior starter Matt Slauter (4-1) fanned seven Lopers and didn't walk a batter in six full innings.
UNK (12-13, 9-7) tallied 16 hits with six different players having two hits, including sophomore outfielder
Shane Stock (Millard South H.S.) and redshirt freshman catcher

Kearney quickly rebounded in game two as they tallied six runs in the bottom of the first. Taking advantage of a Hornet error, the Lopers scored each run after two outs.
However, the ESU bullpen fanned eight and walked just one over the final 8.1 innings. The trio, led by Garrett Brummett (2-1), allowed only seven hits.
At the plate, Emporia scored four in the sixth and two in the seventh to complete the comeback. Only one of their runs was earned as UNK committed five errors. Four Hornets did have a multi-hit effort, led by nine-hole hitter Alex White (2 for 4, one run & two RBI's).
UNK saw Stock and junior second baseman
Matt Salamon (Owasso, Oka.) both go 3 for 4 with a combined three RBI's. Finally, seniors
Chayse Gulzow (Grand Island H.S.) and senior
Jacob Dittman (Colo. Springs, Colo.) combined for three K's and no runs over the last three innings.
The Lopers head to NW Missouri State on Wednesday.
