Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Kacey Ayers tossed a seven-hit complete game and Hunter Middleton went six innings to help Southwest Baptist sweep a double header from Nebraska-Kearney, 10-6 and 7-4, Friday afternoon at Dryden Park.
This was the home opener for the Lopers (6-11, 0-2). With the wins, the Bearcats improve to 7-11 (2-0).
In game one, Ayers (5-6) blanked UNK in the first, second and fifth innings. Her offense scored two in the fourth to make it 3-1 and then erupted for five in the sixth to erase a 4-3 deficit.
The faithful inning featured six of SBU's 13 hits, including a two-run homer from catcher Dana Graves (3 for 5, four RBI's). The Lopers also had one of its five errors in this inning.
For UNK, junior designated player
Kayla Carter went 2 for 3 with two RBI's from the nine hole with senior third baseman
Makenzi Dallas (2 for 4, two runs) hitting two home runs to knock in three.
In the nightcap, SBU scored three in the second and two in the third to grab a 5-1 lead. Middleton (2-5) blanked UNK four three straight innings and then Ayers got three outs in the seventh to record her second save.
Taking advantage of four Kearney errors, the 'Cats were led at the plate by right fielder Stef Lischke (2 for 4, two runs, one RBI).
The Lopers saw Blair senior first baseman
Kate Ruwe go 3 for 4 and hit a dinger, her team-leading sixth of the year, in the third.
UNK hosts Central Missouri Saturday at noon.
