Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Senior
Chris Sievers struck out seven in 3.2 innings and junior center fielder
Easton Edmond went 3 for 4 to help Nebraska-Kearney rally past 7th-ranked Missouri Southern State, 10-7, Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field.
The Lopers (7-6, 5-0) have won six straight and will go for the series sweep tomorrow at noon.
Missouri Southern (10-3, 2-3) got off to a fast start, scoring once in the first and then belting back-to-back homers in the third to open up a 4-0 lead. However, UNK struck for four in its half of the third with twoscoring on a two-out RBI single down the right field line by senior designated hitter
Kyle Honeycutt (2 for 2).
MSSU used the long ball to grab the lead back, getting a three-run shot from first baseman Brett Graham (3 for 5) in the top of the fifth. That made the score 7-4.
Once again, Kearney came back, scoring five runs in the bottom of the inning. Edmond (Lincoln SW), scoring three times on the day, belted a deep two-run homer to right to start the big set.
Later, junior third baseman
Brent Kirsch (Papillion) and redshirt freshman left fielder
Pate Katechis (Longmont, Colo.) had RBI's with Honeycutt (Millard South H.S.) scoring on a wild pitch.
A Honeycutt RBI double brought home another run in the sixth but Sievers (Loveland, Colo.) didn't need it. In 3.2 innings of relief work, he fanned seven, walked two and allowed just one hit. Improving to 2-0 with an 0.87 ERA, Sievers struck out the side in the sixth.
Finally, North Platte
Joe Smidt recorded his 26th career save by getting a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.
