Mitchell Robinson threw all nine innings and sophomore designated hitter
Dallas Schramm homered for a fifth straight game as Nebraska-Kearney rolled past Fort Hays State, 11-3, Wednesday night in Kansas.
This was the first of a three-game series with the Tigers. The two will meet next Tuesday, April 19th, at Memorial Field and then on Wednesday, April 23rd, back in Hays.
Throwing UNK's first nine inning complete game since April 27, 2013 (
Michael Hahn vs. SW Baptist), Robinson won for the second time in eight days. Over 118 pitches, the Colorado native fanned five and worked around two walks and 11 hits (eight singles).
After throwing 5.2 innings of solid relief last Tuesday to beat NW Missouri State, Robinson (2-5) made his 21st career start tonight and blanked Hays (17-19, 11-14) in six of the nine innings.
Offensively, Schramm (Millard North H.S.) staked Kearney to an early lead when he banged a three-run shot over the right field wall in the bottom of the first. Over the last five games, the catcher/DH is batting .476 with three doubles, five HR's, and 15 RBI's.
Back in 2011, Chase Larsson of Cameron University (Okla.) set the NCAA Division II record by homering in nine straight games.
UNK struck for more two more runs in the third and fourth innings and then added three more runs over the final two innings. Five Tigers pitchers combined to hit seven Lopers and walk for more.

Brent Kirsch (Papillion) went 2 for 6 with three runs scored and RBI with junior catcher
Kirk McLeod (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) finishing 2 for 5 with a run and three RBI's.
Five-hole hitter and center fielder Connor Ross paced the Tigers, going 2 for 4 with three runs. His day included a double and home run.
The Lopers host the Pittsburg State Gorillas tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. Pitt (9-25, 4-21) fell 10-9 at home to Missouri Southern Wednesday night.
