Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney softball team wrapped up the 2016 season by falling at Fort Hays State, 2-1 and 10-0 (5 innings), Sunday afternoon in Kansas.
These were non-conference games. The Lopers end the year at 18-28.
California senior
Nicole Larsen (6-12) was the tough luck loser in game one as she went the distance, allowing just five hits and no walks. Fanning four, Larsen blanked the Tigers in four straight innings.
However, two doubles in the bottom of the sixth inning provided the winning margin. On the mound for Hays, Paxton Duran (15-17) threw a complete game five-hitter.
In the night cap, Carrie Clarke (5-11) threw a five inning complete game shutout. She fanned one Loper while walking four and allowing just five hits.
Offensively, center fielder Claudia Vazquez was 1 for 2 with four RBI's with third baseman Kylie Strand 2 for 3 with a run and three RBI's. The Tigers scored one in the second, six in the third and three more in the fourth to finish the regular season 21-28.
For the Lopers, Larsen didn't allow a run in an inning of work while going 1 for 2 at the plate.
