Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Sophomore
Mitchell Robinson struck out five over 5.2 innings and sophomore
Josh Estrada belted a three-run home run to lift Nebraska-Kearney to an 11-7 win over Northwest Missouri State Tuesday night at Memorial Field.
The victory helps the Lopers (13-17, 10-11) take the season series from the Bearcats (17-14, 12-9).
Things didn't start off well for UNK as third baseman Kevin Handzlik hit a wind-aided three-run homer to right field in the top of the first. However, Bearcat starter Hondo Pearcy left after two-thirds of an inning due to injury.
Kearney scored once in its first at-bat and then erupted for a six spot in the third. Estrada (Houston, Texas) hit his fifth dinger of the year to right center, running Nikko Pablo (1-2) from the game. Soon after, Lincoln junior center fielder
Easton Edmond (2 for 4) delivered a two-run single to right center.
In his first relief appearance after making 20 starts, Robinson (Golden, Colo.) earned his first win of 2016 by blanking Northwest for four innings. Throwing 110 pitches, he allowed two earned runs on four hits and three walks.
Also on the mound, Grand Island senior
Chayse Gulzow fanned two in 1.1 inning of scoreless relief. At the plate, besides Estrada (2 for 4) and Edmond, sophomore designated hitter
Dallas Schramm (Millard South H.S.) went 3 for 5 with two runs and a deep two-run homer to left center.
UNK heads to Oklahoma this weekend to face the Northeastern State RiverHawks.
