Aqualopers Take Lone Home Dual; UNO Canceled Sunday

Kenzie Eubank
Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney Aqualopers won eight events to swim past the College of Saint Mary Flames, 87-63, Saturday afternoon at Kearney High School.

This was UNK's first and last home dual of the 2016-17 season. It marked the Aqualopers first dual against outside competition in its new home pool.

Due to weather, tomorrow's dual against Nebraska-Omaha has been canceled and will not be made up. Back in November, Northern State (S.D.) was supposed to come to UNK for a dual but also couldn't make the trip because of a storm.

Of UNK's eight wins, five came in freestyle events. True freshmen Alyssa Hoffman (St. Cloud, Minn.), Becca Shaw (Kansas City) and Anna Yanke (Scottsbluff) each won twice with senior Kenzie Eubank winning one individual event and swimming on the first place 400 medley relay team.

During the meet, Eubank (Ft. Collins, Colo.) was honored for her four-year career. She currently ranks in the UNK all-time top 10 in three individual events.

In distance free, Hoffman had winning times of 5:58.41 (500) and 12:15.19 (1,000) with Shaw taking the gold in the 50 free (26.46) and 100 backstroke (1:04.81). Also in sprint events, Yanke came in first thanks to a 1:01.07 (100 free) and a 1:15.78 (100 breaststroke). She then swam the second leg for the 400 MR squad (4:28.41).

Finally, Eubank was the lead on that foursome after earlier winning the 200 free (2:13.29).
