Kearney, Neb. – Freshman
Alex Dayton scored her first career goal and sophomore
Allie Prososki stopped seven shots to help Nebraska Kearney beat Central Oklahoma, 1-0, Friday afternoon in Edmond.
The Lopers (4-8-3, 1-6-1) win a second straight regular season game at UCO (6-7-2, 3-3-2) and also keeps its post season chances alive.
The 'Chos came averaging three goals per game, the third highest mark in the MIAA. They were shut out for just the fourth time this year as Prososki (Kearney Catholic) saved four shots in the first half and three more after the break. The Loper defense limited UCO to seven shots on goal.
"That was a great victory against a very good UCO team. We knew a win was coming soo and it was just a matter of when," said Loper head coach
Chloe Roberts. "Today was a battle and sometimes you have to have the mental toughness, discipline and desire to want it more than the other team and we did exactly that."
UNK finished with nine shots on goal and Norfolk sophomore
Maddie Love recorded one of three early in the second half. While UCO keeper Kaitlyn Asher stopped the shot, the rebound went to Dayton (Olathe, Kan.) soon after and she popped the ball in from the right side of the box in the 55th minute.
While the Lopers didn't have a corner in the game, they kept the pressure up in the second half and forced Asher to make four saves. The last one came in the 89th minute with UNK being called off sides two minutes earlier.
Besides Live, Colorado junior Michaela Hoffman had three shots on goal with senior
Marika Van Brocklin (Hastings) and junior
Ciera Clark (Omaha North) joining Dayton with one.
"The players deserve that more than anyone for their continued positive never-give-up attitudes they've had all year. I'm very proud of them," said Roberts. "We know we can still make postseason with three games remaining and each player and staff member are all together to make that happen," said Roberts.
UCO saw Asha Haile take five shots, none on goal, with Mikayla Lowery having all three of her shots stopped by Prososki.
Kearney faces regionally-ranked Northeastern State on Sunday.
