Aqualopers Edged by the Flames

Kearney, Neb. – The College of Saint Mary Flames won six events to edge Nebraska-Kearney, 75-72, Saturday afternoon in Omaha.

CSM improves to 2-4 on the young season while this was UNK's opening event of the 2017-18 season.

The Flames secured the dual victory when Morgan Niewohner won the 10th event, the 100 breaststroke, in a time of 1:14.83. Teammate Emma Turner was fourth, giving CSM eight team points overall.

UNK placed first and third, respectively, in the 200 free relay to pick up its final nine points of the day but the Flames were second to net its final four points.
Sophomore Becca Shaw (Kansas City) paced the Aqualopers as she won both the 50 (26.31) and 100 (57.81) free and was anchor for the winning 200 free relay team (1:47.85).

Next, sophomore Addison Peitz (Hartington) won the 200 free in 2:12.12 with freshman Toni Lehr (Hutchinson, Kan.) leading the field in the 100 butterfly (1:03.29). Lehr also was the third leg on the second place 200 medley team (2:02.23).

UNK heads to Sioux City, Ia., next weekend to face the Morningside Mustangs and to compete in MC's annual invitational.
