Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The Ouachita Baptist (
pronounced Wash-ih-taw) Tigers scored seven runs in the seventh inning to rally past Nebraska-Kearney, 11-6, Sunday afternoon in Arkadelphia, Ark.
After going 2-2 at Metro State last weekend in Denver, UNK went 2-2 this weekend in the Central Arkansas.
The Lopers held leads of 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 but OBU (2-6), from the Great American Conference, rallied each time.
In the faithful seventh, the Tigers busted open a tight game thanks to six hits, two wild pitches and a walk. The big blow was a two out, three-run homer off the bat of left fielder Ty Owens (2 for 5).
UNK made things interesting by scoring three runs in its last at bat but junior lefty Brian Krikorian came in and recorded two strikeouts to end the comeback.
After the bottom of the lineup provided the pop in Saturday's win over Truman State, it was the top of the order leading the Lopers today. Senior center fielder
Easton Edmond (Lincoln S.W.), junior first baseman
Ricky Trammell (Kansas City) and junior designated hitter
Dallas Schramm (Millard North) went a combined 8 for 13 with four runs and four RBI's. They were one through three in the batting order.
Overall, UNK recorded 13 hits and stranded 10. The Tigers also had 13 hits and left nine runners on base.
Seven different Lopers took to the mound with junior southpaw
Matt Testa (Joliet, Ill.) allowing no base runners in one inning of relief work. OBU right hander Adam Bahloul struck out five and allowed three earned in 7.2 inning to record the win.
The Lopers play four games at Colorado-Colorado Springs next weekend. The first-year Mountain Lions have gotten off to an impressive 4-3 start, including wins over Cal Poly Pomona and Colorado State-Pueblo.
