Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Junior
Trey Lansman had another double double and freshman reserve
Kyle Juhl had 15 points to help Nebraska-Kearney hold off Northeastern State, 74-67, Saturday evening in Tahlequah, Okla.
The Lopers (18-8, 11-6) are now tied with Central Missouri for second place in the MIAA standings. The Mules (17-8), ranked 10th in the Central Region, lost at home to Lincoln and Lindenwood this weekend.
Leading nearly the entire way, the Lopers got 17 points and 12 rebounds (10 defensive) from Lansman and saw Juhl go 4 of 6 from the three point line. Leading by as many as 12 points, UNK did have to make its free throws down the stretch to hold off the 'Hawks (4-21, 3-13).
"We grinded it out. This is a tough team to play against; they press you the whole time so you're always on the edge," said UNK head coach
Kevin Lofton. "I thought we did a decent job of taking care of the basketball."
To have his third double double in the last four games, Lansman (Harlan, Ia.) went 7 of 8 at the line and 5 of 13 from the field. Once again going all 40 minutes, he swatted four shots as well.
Juhl, also from Harlan, Ia., had his second best game as a Loper by scoring 12 of his points in the first half. Earlier this year in a win over Fort Hay State, he had 17 points and five boards.
Next, York junior
Ty Danielson made 11 of 12 free throws to score 13 with Minnesota sophomore guard
Isaiah McKay making 5 of 5 freebies to tally 14. Finally, Lincoln freshman reserve
Sam Morris had five points, two boards and a block in 16 minutes.
"This was a great team effort. Kyle goes 4 of 5 (from the three point line) in the first half and that gave us some breathing room," said Lofton.
Three 'Hawks scored 14 apiece, including reserves Tanner Mouse and Cameron Martin.
UNK is at Hays (16-9, 10-7) Tuesday night.
