Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Senior
Trey Ertmer had six strikeouts in six innings and the Nebraska-Kearney baseball team racked up 14 hits in an 11-1 win at Colorado-Colorado Springs on Sunday afternoon.
The Lopers (7-5) won the series by outscoring the Mountain Lions (5-6) 17-2 over the final three games.
Making his first start of 2017, Ertmer (Elizabeth, Ill.) allowed one earned run on five hits and a walk. Winning for the fourth time as a Loper, the right hander shut out UCCS for five straight innings.
UNK provided Ertmer with an immediate cushion as they scored four times in the top of the first. The first five Lopers reached safely with junior right fielder
Josh Estrada (Houston) having a two-run single to right.
Kearney scored in five more innings as the Mountain Lions had to use six pitchers. Four different Lopers collected two hits, including junior designated hitter
Dallas Schramm (Millard North) and junior catcher
Billy Hayes (Lemont, Ill.).
Finally, four Loper relievers combined for four K's, no walks and gave up just two hits over the last three innings. This group included senior
Sean Laughlin (Overland Park, Kan.).
After getting next weekend off, UNK heads to Missouri Southern State to begin MIAA play.
