Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney softball team fell in five innings to Metro State, 12-1, and 19th-ranked Colorado Mesa, 8-0, Sunday afternoon in Denver.
In game one, the home standing MSU-Denver Roadrunners (2-0) scored 12 times over the first two innings to take a commanding lead. To score these runs, Metro drew four walks, took advantage of a Loper error and recorded nine hits.
Three different 'Runners finished with two RBI's, including senior pitcher Cassidy Smith. From the nine hole, she had a two-run double in the second while also throwing a complete game four-hitter.

Mesa (2-0) also jumped on Kearney, crossing home plate six times in the bottom of the first. Most of the damage was via the walk as the Mavericks received five free passes. They then added single runs in the third and fifth innings.
For Kearney, California freshman second baseman
Macey Nelson went 1 for 2 and also recorded four put outs in the field. CMU was paced by leadoff hitter Alexandria Durfour (2 for 4, two runs) and junior pitcher Andy Hancock, who struck out seven and walked none in going the distance.
UNK heads to Minnesota next weekend to play in the annual Kelly Laas Memorial Invite. They Lopers will play inside the Husky Dome and have six games over three days.
