Newcomer Handcuffs the Lopers

Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Junior right hander Bryant Haralson struck out 11, walked none and allowed just one hit to power Henderson State over Nebraska-Kearney, 7-0, Thursday night in Arkadelphia, Ark.

HSU, a member of the Great American Conference (GAC), improves to 4-0 while the Lopers fall to 2-3.

A 6-0, 170 pound transfer from Crowder College (Mo.), Haralson retired 18 batters in a row before giving way to redshirt freshman right hander Foxx Smith. Seven of the K's were of the swinging variety with only Minnesota senior catcher Kirk McLeod getting the lone hit.

UNK threatened in the top of the second as Omaha junior designated hitter Dallas Schramm reached on catcher's interference and McLeod singled to right. However, two ground outs and a fly out followed. Smith completed the shut out by allowing just one base runner and that came via error.

At the plate, the Reddies managed nine hits, five coming in a five-run fifth. With two outs, nine-hole hitter and catcher Brentten Schwab delivered a two-run single to right. Soon after, leadoff hitter Alan Hall (3 for 4, two runs) and two-hole hitter Parker Jones (2 for 4) had run scoring singles.

UNK did get seven K's from Canadian senior starter Tanner Spencer (0-2). The Loper bullpen then threw 3.1 innings of scoreless ball to close out the night, led by Colorado junior Travis Edgar (1.0 IP with two K's).

The Lopers walk across the street tomorrow to face Ouachita Baptist at 1:00 p.m.
