Big Innings Propel Lindenwood

Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The Lindenwood Lions scored four runs in the sixth and erupted for nine more in the eighth to beat Nebraska-Kearney, 15-5 (8 innings), Friday afternoon in St. Charles, Mo.

This three-game MIAA series was moved up to a Thursday/Friday format due to weather. With the series sweep, the Lions improve to 13-7 (6-3).

UNK (7-11, 0-6) used a three spot in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. Junior left fielder Sean Maruo (2 for 4) capped things with a two-out, two-run double to right center.

Senior right hander Trey Ertmer (1-2) fanned nine over 5.2 innings but ran into trouble in the sixth. With two down and a runner on first, LWU strung together a pinch hit single, walk and two-run single to tie things at three. After a pitching change, junior designated hitter Drew Quinones (2 for 5) delivered a two-run double to right to put LWU ahead for good.

Both teams scored runs in the seventh but also combined to leave five runners on base. With two down and the bases full of Lions, junior Cameron Burkey (McCook) got out a strikeout to keep it a 6-4 deficit.

Junior catcher Dallas Schramm (1 for 3, two runs) and junior first baseman Ricky Trammell (3 for 3, one run) hit back-to-back doubles to start the Loper eighth. Trammell stole third but remained there as Lions closer Connor Law got a strikeout to end the inning.

Finally, LWU recorded five of its 15 hits and took advantage of one error to score nine times in the bottom of the inning. The big blows were a two-run triple by junior first baseman Connor Behrens (3 for 5, three runs) and a three-run triple by sophomore center fielder Kyle Teter (2 for 6, four RBI's).

UNK is slated to host the Sioux Falls Cougars (1-5) Monday at 3:00 p.m. The 2nd-ranked Central Missouri Mules (13-3) come to town next weekend.
