Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Senior right hander Taylor Burns tossed a three-hit complete game shutout and freshman designated hitter Erik Webb hit two home runs to help second-ranked Central Missouri beat Nebraska-Kearney, 11-0 (7 innings), Sunday afternoon at Memorial Field.
With the victory, the Mules (17-5, 9-3) take the three-game series over the Lopers (8-14).
A 6-3, 215 pound Canadian, Burns improved to 3-2 by fanning three, walking two, hitting one and allowing three singles. Eight of his outs came via fly ball with junior right fielder Justin Graff-Rowe making a couple of diving catches to prevent extra base hits.
For the third straight day, UCM scored in its first at bat as Webb (3 for 4, four runs & four RBI's) hit his second homer of the year, a solo shot, to left center. Two innings later, the two-hole hitter belted a three-run shot to left to make it 4-0.
UCM also saw senior second baseman Miles Orscheln go 2 for 4 with a run and four RBI's. He had a two-run homer, his first of the year, in the sixth.
Illinois senior starter
Trey Ertmer (1-3) took the loss as he allowed seven runs in 5.1 innings. He did blank UCM in the second and fourth innings. At the plate, Kansas senior left fielder and leadoff hitter
Jacob Richardson remained hot as he went 2 for 3. Over the last seven games, he is batting .500 (10 for 20) with six runs and three RBI's.
Weather permitting, UNK plays at Northwest Missouri State on Tuesday afternoon.
