Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Senior Kacey Ayers-Evans tossed a one-hit shutout and freshman Claire Miller threw six shutout innings to help Southwest Baptist sweep a doubleheader from Nebraska-Kearney, 4-0 and 7-0, Friday morning in Bolivar, Mo.

Due to expected poor weather, the games began at 8:00 a.m. With the wins, SBU improves to 19-7 (3-1) while UNK falls to 3-27 (0-4).

A two-time All-MIAA pick, Ayers-Evans (11-3) picked up the game one win as she fanned six and walked just one. Senior first baseman Molly Stern (Peoria, Ariz.) hit a single to center with one down in the sixth to break up the no-hit bid.

SBU scored all four of its runs in its first at bat. Taking advantage of two Loper errors, SBU recorded two of its three hits in this inning. Shortstop Stormy Christensen (1 for 2, one run) had an RBI double and catcher Dana Graves (2 for 3) delivered a single up the middle.

Junior Meg Housholder (Parker, Colo.) was the tough luck loser, allowing two earned in six innings of work. Walking four and striking out three, she shut out SBU for five straight innings.

In the second game, Miller (5-2) fanned 13 and walked just one. She allowed three hits, all singles, with sophomore Hunter Middleton working a scoreless seventh.

Finishing with eight hits, SBU scored five times in the second. The big inning featured two Loper errors, two wild pitches and three hits. Overall, freshman third baseman Lauren Strobel (2 for 3, two runs) led the Bearcat offense. 

Papillion freshman Sara Sempek went the distance for UNK, allowing three earned on those eight hits and four walks. At the plate, three Lopers registered a hit including junior right fielder Kaela Samek (Lincoln Pius X).

UNK is at Central Missouri on Sunday.
