Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney softball team erupted for 27 hits and 19 runs to sweep a double header from Lincoln, 11-5 and 8-1, late Tuesday night in St. Charles, Mo.
The games were set to be played in the afternoon on the LU campus in Jefferson City. However, due to weather and field conditions, they had to be moved 1.5 hours down to road to Lindenwood.
UNK (5-29, 2-6) banged out 16 hits in the first game and 11 more in the second. Overall, the Lopers belted three homers, three doubles and two triples against Blue Tiger (3-24, 0-7) pitching.
In the early game, Kearney tallied two in the second, five in the fourth and three in the seven. Lincoln did have a four-run third but were limited to a single run over the final four innings.
Senior infielder
Molly Stern (Peoria, Ariz.) had herself a day, going 4 for 5 with four runs and four RBI's. Batting third, she had a two-run triple in the seventh and a solo homer, her team-leading third of the year, in the sixth.
Next, Papillion freshman designated player
Sara Sempek belted a three-run homer in the fourth with three others going 2 for 4. That trio included Ralston senior left fielder
Taylre Keenan, who had a two-run single in the fourth.
Colorado junior
Meg Housholder picked up her second win by allowing two earned on six hits and seven walks over five full innings. She fanned four and shut out LU in three innings.
Sempek won for the third time in the circle by tossing a five-hit complete game in the night cap. She fanned six, walked three and gave up just four singles and a double.
UNK broke a scoreless tie with a six-run fourth. The big inning featured a two-run triple by Stern and an RBI single from Lexington junior third baseman
Halle Gydesen. An LU error made four of the runs unearned.
Keenan (3 for 4, two runs) paced the offense with Papillion freshman catcher
Alexis Howe going yard in the fourth.
Weather permitting, UNK remains in St. Charles and faces the Lindenwood Lions Wednesday afternoon.
