Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Junior Barbara Billingsley and freshman Kenzie Hilzer tossed complete games to help Missouri Western State sweep a double header from Nebraska-Kearney, 7-1 and 6-3, Saturday evening at Dryden Park.

Playing its four double header this week, the Griffons are now 31-15 (11-9).

Hilzer (15-6) gave up a first inning run in game one but blanked the Lopers (8-42, 5-19) the rest of the way. She threw 106 pitches, fanning six, walking one, plunking one and surrendering seven hits.  

Mo West also tallied a first inning run and then scored three in the fourth, one in the sixth and two more in the seventh. The Griffons did strand 10 with UNK leaving eight runners on base.

Center fielder and leadoff hitter Morgan Rathmann (4 for 5, one run) and two-hole hitter Shelbie Atwell (3 for 4, three RBI's) paced a 14-hit MWSU attack. Rathmann smacked her seventh triple of the year with two teammates going yard.

In the night cap, Billingsley (16-9) shut out UNK over the first five innings in throwing a six-hitter. Not allowing an earned run, she struck out four and walked four over 103 pitches.

UNK did record three of its hits in a three-run sixth. Papillion freshman pitcher Sara Sempek delivered a two-run single to center but a Loper was thrown out rounding second, ending the inning.

Mo West had two of its nine hits in the top of the seventh to add an insurance run. A four-run second featured a two-run triple by Rathmann (2 for 4) and a two-run homer by right fielder Shelby Uhl (2 for 4).

Sempek did some yeoman's work, throwing 132 pitches, to record her sixth complete game of the year. She fanned five and shut out MWSU in four innings. Finally, Lincoln junior right fielder Kalea Samek went 2 for 4 with a run scored to pace the offense.

UNK heads to Chadron State Tuesday afternoon.
