Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Junior Kelsee Henry and freshman Lexie Crabtree tossed complete games to help Washburn slip past Nebraska-Kearney, 5-3 and 2-1, Friday afternoon in Topeka.
In game one, the Ichabods (20-23, 7-7) saw Henry win her ninth game by allowing three earned runs on six hits and no walks. Throwing just 83 pitches, she also had one strikeout.
UNK (6-36, 3-13) scored single runs in the first and third innings to grab a 2-0 lead. Freshman center fielder
Nicole Spykstra (2 for 3) had an RBI single to being the scoring with freshman catcher
Alexis Howe (Papillion-LaVista) leading off the third with her third homer of the year.
The Loper lead could've been more as they loaded the bases with two outs in the second. However, Henry got an infield pop up to get out of the jam.
Washburn took control with a four-run third. The big inning featured three walks, two hits, one hit batter, one error and a wild pitch. While the 'Bods left the bases full, they also coaxed walks on three full counts.
Kearney's final run came when Spykstra (Chandler, Ariz.) led off the sixth with a triple and came home thanks to a sac fly by junior third baseman
Halle Gydesen (Lexington).
Crabtree (2-3) tossed a four-hitter in the nightcap. Throwing 102 pitches, she fanned three and walked one. UNK was out hit 8-4 and didn't score until the top of the seventh.
Washburn used two doubles to score one run in the second and then added an insurance run in the fifth. Two singles and a stolen base provide the 'Bods a small cushion. Overall, third baseman Savannah Moore went 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Gydesen (2 for 3) led off the seventh with her third dinger of the spring. Finally, Utah junior
Abbey Martin struck out two and didn't allow a baserunner over the final 1.1 innings.
UNK is at Emporia State (24-18, 9-5) on Saturday afternoon.
