Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Sophomore lefty Zach Parish struck out 10 over six innings to help Northeastern State salvage the series finale against Nebraska-Kearney, 11-5, Sunday afternoon at Memorial Field.
The RiverHawks improve to 18-14 (12-9) while the Lopers fall to 11-23 (4-17).
Now 4-2 on the year, Parish threw 115 pitches and blanked UNK until the fifth. He allowed four earned runs on three walks and seven hits. Right hander Daniel Faulk helped limit a Kearney comeback as he allowed no earned runs over the final three innings to pick up the save.
NSU, which stranded 15 runners, gave Parish all the support he needed by having a three-run third and scoring twice in the second, fifth and seventh innings. Eight of the nine starters registered a hit with right fielder Dakota Woods (3 for 4, one run & one RBI) and left fielder Jordan Payne (3 for 4, one run & two RBI's) leading the way.
Down 8-0, UNK scored twice in the fifth and sixth innings to make things interesting. Texas junior shortstop
Josh Estrada (1 for 2, three RBI's) got the Lopers on the board with a two-run shot, his first of the year, in the fifth and then added an RBI single in the next inning. However, three Lopers were left on the base paths in the sixth as Parish got a ground out to first to end the inning.
Besides Estrada, Omaha junior catcher
Dallas Schramm went 3 for 5 with two runs and Oklahoma senior second baseman
Matt Salamon went 2 for 4 with an RBI. On the bump, Beatrice senior
Derek Clausen allowed just one run over the final 2.2 innings.
A five-game home stand ends Tuesday night when Fort Hays State (9-25, 2-19) comes to town. That is the first of a three-game series with the Tigers.
