Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Senior lefty Holden Capps struck out eight over seven innings and Central Oklahoma belted two three-run home runs to beat Nebraska-Kearney, 7-1, Saturday afternoon in Edmond.

The Bronchos (29-17-1, 19-16) are now in sixth place in the MIAA and improve to 15-6 at Wendell Simmons Field.

A 6-2 transfer from Division I North Carolina-Charlotte, Capps (7-4) didn't allow a run in seven full innings of work. Throwing 111 pitches, he issued one walk and surrendered three singles and a double. UNK did put two runners on in each of the first two innings but Capps got a strikeout and a fly out to right to get out of the jams.

The Bronchos, finishing with nine hits, gave Capps all the supported he needed when junior second baseman Kyle Miskovsky belted a three-run shot in the fourth. After a double steal brought home another run in the fifth, senior designated hitter Brenton Washausen (1 for 2, two runs) hit his fifth homer of the year with one down in the seventh.

Besides the dingers, junior third baseman Anthony Alvarez went 3 for 4 with a run scored from the six hole.

For the Lopers, junior Dallas Schramm (Millard North H.S.) and sophomore Pate Katechis (Longmont, Colo.) both went 2 for 4 with true freshman designated hitter Ty Roseberry (Kearney H.S.) leading off the ninth with his first collegiate homer. On the mound, Colorado junior lefty Bradley Brown shut out UCO over the first three innings with Iowa junior Clay Collison allowing no runs over the final 1.2 innings.

The regular season finale for both teams is set for Sunday at noon.
