Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Lopers Blank the Peacocks

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women's tennis team made quick work of the Upper Iowa Peacocks, 9-0, Saturday morning in Waverly, Ia.

The Lopers finish the fall 4-0 in duals while UIU, from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, fall top 0-1. The match was moved to Wartburg College, just a few miles from UIU's campus in Fayette.

UNK took advantage of a Peacock roster that currently features just five players. Thus, the Lopers won by default and No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. At No. 3 singles, Papillion senior Emma Neil won 6-0 in the first set before Lavanya Singh retired.

The Lopers didn't allow a single point in either doubles match with Spanish senior Amanda Alvarez (No. 4) and Kearney freshman Faith Kowalski (No. 5) both winning by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Finally, Chinese senior Sherry Sun rebounded from an opening set loss to beat Anna Okolot (2-6, 6-2, 10-6) at No. 2 singles.

Both Kearney teams head to ITA Regionals next weekend in Springfield, Mo.
