Kearney, Neb. – The 12th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team closes out the regular season at home this weekend with duals against 10th-ranked Central Oklahoma and Newman University.
The Lopers (19-1, 3-0) faces the Bronchos (13-3, 4-0) Thursday at Kearney High School. That dual begins at 7 p.m. and can be viewed live via the
Loper Wrestling Facebook page. On "Super Bowl" Sunday, UNK faces the NU Jets (3-3, 1-2) at 3 p.m. That can be viewed via
The MIAA Network.
The tilt with the 'Chos will decide the MIAA regular season title; UCO (5-0) was first last year with UNK (4-1) second. A couple of expected key match ups come at 125 pounds (#2 Eli Hale vs. #9
Josh Portillo), 149 pounds (#2
Keith Surber vs. #7 Will Steltzen) and 285 pounds (#4
Caleb Cotter vs.
Jarrod Hinrichs).
On Sunday, Newman brings in ranked individuals at 184 and 285 pounds. Prior to that dual beginning, the Lopers will honors five seniors; Surber,
Kevin Barrett (285 lbs.),
Chance Bila (197 lbs.),
Seth Harrington (157/165 lbs.) and
Bryce Shoemaker (133 lbs.).
This Saturday, UNK will send 12 wrestlers to the annual Sioux City Dave Edmonds Open hosted by Morningside College.
