UNK Rallies to Tie the Lions

Kearney, Neb. – Senior Ciera Clark scored twice to help Nebraska-Kearney tie Missouri Southern State, 2-2, Sunday in Joplin.

The Lopers (5-10-1, 3-5-1) are now tied with Lindenwood for eighth place in the MIAA standings (10 points). The top eight teams make the MIAA Tournament at the end of the year. There is one weekend of regular season play remaining.

MSSU (7-6-3,3-4-3) tallied goals in the 24th and 33d minute to grab the lead. The Lions finished with a 9-8 shot advantage as well as a 6-1 margin in corners.

UNK got off the deck as Clark (Omaha North) tallied a rebound goal in the 39th minute. Seventeen minutes later, she scored again to help the Lopers knot things at two. Lincoln senior Tori Weber assisted on the game tying goal.

Kearney pushed forward as Omaha freshman Kylee Moore had a shot saved in the 81st minute and a shot by Missouri freshman Bridget Barker sailed high two minutes later. In overtime, Missouri junior Emily Thuss made two saves to preserve the tie with a Loper goal as time expired waved off due to being offsides.

UNK hosts Fort Hays State and Emporia State next weekend to close out the regular season.
