Week Six Preview: Long Road Trip Awaits

10/4/2018 1:04:00 PM

Kearney, Neb. – The fourth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team has one of its longest MIAA road trips of the year when it heads to Lindenwood and No. 16 Central Missouri this weekend.

This is the only meeting with the Lions and Jennies this season. Check the Loper schedule page for first serve times and media links.

UNK (20-1, 6-1) has won eight straight to be in second place tie with Northwest Missouri State in the MIAA standings. No. 9 Washburn (19-9, 7-0) is in first and the Ichabods are at Missouri Southern State and Southwest Baptist this weekend.

Since joining the MIAA in the fall of 2013, the Lopers have gone 3-1 in St. Charles (LWU) and 1-4 in Warrensburg (UCM). Last year in the Health & Sports Center UNK beat the Jennies in the regular season (3-0) and in the MIAA Tournament (3-1) while sweeping the Lions (3-0).

The Lopers are now plus 73 in the serve game as they have almost 2.5 times more aces than its opponent. UNK also has seven fewer errors with five players having between 12-27 aces. In her career, senior setter Lindsey Smith (Dakota Dunes, SD) is up to 127 aces, third most by a Loper since 1995.

Kearney ranks sixth in the MIAA in aces per set (1.5) but is second in opponent service aces (0.62). Continuing that defensive mindset, UNK is first in opponent hitting percentage (.096) and second opponent kills (10.37) and assists (9.93) per set.

The Lopers begin a four-match home stand next weekend when MSSU and SBU come to town.
