Mo West Rallies for 2-1 Victory

Kearney, Neb. - Senior forward Cassidy Menke scored twice to help Missouri Western State down Nebraska-Kearney, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.

The Griffons improve to 8-4-0 while the Lopers fall to 5-7-0. Both teams are 3-2-0 in league play to be tied for fourth place.

A transfer from Division I Arkansas State, Menke tallied goals in the 41st and 61st  minutes to erase a 1-0 deficit. Now with a team-best eight goals (19 points) on the year, Menke's first goal came from 25 yards out and from the right wing. She went high to the far post with a leaping Loper keeper Allie Prososki unable to knock it down.

Early in the second half Menke got loose on the left wing. Teammate Danny Walsh, from the center of the field, found Menke who again went top shelf to the far post.

Down the stretch UNK got shots by junior Maddie Love (Norfolk Catholic) and senior Tori Weber (Lincoln SE) but both went wide of the MWSU net. A corner kick in the 86th minute, the Lopers lone corner of the half, didn't result in a shot either.

Kearney got on the board at the 33rd minute mark when the Griffon defense and keeper Anna Mayer were surrounding Love on the left wing. However, freshman Kassidy Kirsch (Rapid City, SD) was wide open in the center box and she easily scored her first collegiate goal after taking a pass from Love.

Overall both teams finished with six shots with UNK having one more corner, 3-2. Omaha junior Megan Merkel had a team-high two shots, both on goal, with Prososki making two saves.

Menke paced the Griffs with four shots (three on goal) while Mayer stopped three Lopers shots.

UNK heads to Lindenwood and defending national champion Central Missouri next weekend.
