Exhibition Season Wraps Up in Lincoln

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Cornhuskers had six players score in double digits and used a big first quarter to down Nebraska-Kearney, 94-41, Saturday evening in an exhibition game in Lincoln.

This was UNK's second exhibition game of the 2018-19 season and the 15th time the Lopers and 'Huskers have squared off since 2002

Coming a 21-win season and an NCAA Tournament berth, a veteran UNL team outscored UNK 30-5 in the first quarter. On October 23rd at Creighton, the Bluejays outscore the Lopers 24-4 in the second quarter. Nebraska made 12 of its first 19 shots (2 of 7 threes) while holding UNK to a 2 of 13 (15.4%) effort. Kearney was outscored by just a 42-32 margin in quarters two and three but the 'Huskers closed on a 22-4 run.

Overall, UNL had a plus 18 rebounding margin (49-31) and took advantage of 25 Loper turnovers. Getting 51 points off its bench, the 'Huskers made 20 of 25 free throws and shot 48% from the floor.

Reserve Leigha Brown had a game-high 13 points thanks to 7 of 8 free throw shooting with fellow reserve Nicea Eliely and starter Taylor Kissinger scoring 12 apiece. They combined to go 7 of 12 (5 of 8 threes) from the field. Finally for UNL, 2018 All-Big 10 pick Hannah Whitish had 11 points, five assists and was 5 of 5 from the floor.

UNK also had a balanced attack and distributed is minutes throughout the entire roster. Junior newcomer Cierra Dvorak (Couer d'Alene, Idaho) tallied a team-high 10 points thanks to four buckets with reserve freshman post Brooke Carlson (Elkhorn South) at eight points, five boards and two blocks. Finally, sophomore guard Shelby Megyeri (Green Mt. Falls, Colo.) sunk of UNK's two threes to have five points, a rebound and assist.

Kearney heads to Wayne State next weekend to face the Wildcats and Minnesota-Crookston from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
