Kearney, Neb. – The Colorado State-Pueblo ThunderWolves used three falls and a major decision to upset second-ranked Nebraska-Kearney, 31-12, Saturday evening in Colorado.

The Lopers (0-3) are still looking for its first dual win of the season after posting a 21-1 mark last year. This was CSUP's first dual of the winter.

Fifth-ranked D'Andre Brumfield put the Pack up for good with a fall in 4:56 at 133 pounds. The Iowa Western transfer and one-time Loper was up 14-5 at the time of the fall. At 141 pounds, junior Tevin Briscoe (Garden City, Kan.) was making his 2018-19 debut and he fell 5-3 as senior PT Garcia recorded a third-period takedown to move ahead by three.

Lincoln sophomore Jonathan Killingsworth, ranked sixth nationally at 141 pounds, moved up a class and held an early 3-2 lead over sophomore Jasiah Williams. However, Williams recorded 10 of the next 12 points and then recorded a fall at 6:16 to give his team a 15-4 lead.

Top-ranked Matt Malcom (Glenwood, Ia.) and third-ranked Calvin Ochs (Hoxie, Kan.) had back-to-back major decisions to get UNK briefly back into things. Malcom had eight of his 14 points in the third period while Ochs, wrestling for just the second time this year, managed seven points in the opening period. To start the dual, third-ranked Josh Portillo (Clarion, Ia.) had 4-point near fall in the third to win 13-5.

Pueblo took the last four matches as senior Tarrence Williams had two takedowns in the third to edge fifth-ranked Zach Stodden (Broomfield, Colo.), 8-7, at 174 pounds with former Loper Preston Lauterbach down 9-2 to senior Isaac Deaton (Valdez, Alaska) at 184 pounds but recording a fall at 5:15. Like for Briscoe, this was Deaton's first action of the year.

Finally, junior Haszell West had a 13-4 major at 197 and redshirt freshman Gavin Nye tallied six early points to upset third-ranked Jarrod Hinrichs (Geneva), 11-6, at heavyweight.

UNK is now off until Saturday, December 29, when it heads to the Viking-Warrior Open in Fremont.
